Adopting a pet is a big decision! Whether you’re thinking about adopting a kitten, cat, puppy, dog or rabbit, there are things you need to consider making sure you’re ready to bring a new furry friend into your family.
When adopting your new dog, consider the following:
- How much time will you have to spend with your dog?
- Are you looking for an active puppy or relaxed older dog?
- Does anyone in your home have allergies or other needs to consider?
- Do you have time for your new dog’s grooming needs?
- Do you already have pets, and how will you introduce them to your new friend?
- Do you have time to dedicate to training a dog?
- How much space do you have in your home and yard?
- Do you have the time and ability to provide the necessary exercise and enrichment?
When adopting your new cat, consider the following:
- How much time will you have to spend with your kitty?
- Are you looking for an active kitten or relaxed older cat?
- Does anyone in your home have allergies or other needs to consider?
- Do you have time for grooming a long-haired cat daily?
- Do you already have pets, and how will you introduce them to your new feline friend?
- Do you have time to dedicate to training a new kitten?
- How much space do you have in your home –will your cat have a safe spot to sleep?
- Will your cat be indoors only, or will they have access to a secure outdoor area, such as a cat run or enclosed backyard?
